WHY I CHOSE MASSAGE THERAPY AS A CAREER
To keep it brief, I was playing outside in my grandma's back yard with the neighborhood kids. It was a purple nights sky in which the full moon had risen. A child came around the corner and screamed, "Maria,, MARIA, come quick your son's been hit by a car."
I turned and noticed all the children running behind the building towards the accident. We never heard it and I have no idea where it occurred.
Maria didn't budge. She stood there in what the adults around me called "in shock". She then she began to run, froze and then fell straight to the ground. I rushed to her and tapped on the shoulder saying, "Maria, MARIA, get up! But she was unresponsive and I noticed her eyes were rolled in the back of her head. I had never seen this before.
So I took a deep breath, steadied my hand on her heart and whispered into her ear, "You can't help your son if you're laying on the floor".
And she slowly came back from where ever she had been. Her eyes rolled back down, she was startled to see me, looked around as if she didn't realize where she was, pushed me aside as she got up and continued running around the building.
I stood there wondering wtf just happened, turned back towards the moon and said a prayer.
Dear God, help me understand what just happened. How can there be such beautiful things in this world like a full moon in a purple sky [I had never seen it before] but then people who get hit by cars and people who go somewhere in their heads then come back confused. If I'm supposed to help people, show me how.
21 years of resistance and spiritual struggle later; I got the message.
"Your hands have healing powers, stop using them to defend yourself which is causing harm to people and use them to heal people."
I made the commitment, and followed thru.
I have been working on people professionally since school started on September of 2008. We had clinics and worked on the public. I graduated on April 30 2010. But didn't take my exam for licensing until 1-11-11. I've been licensed ever since.
12 years later, I've worked on over 13k people and absolutely love helping people feel better. I've learned a lot about where people go when they "check out". Sometimes it's a seizure, sometimes it's a brain wave and sometimes it's another dimension or reality all together. And yet, through the art of sacred touch as preventative medicine, massage can aide where there is touch deprivation, pain, stress and struggle.
I am glad I chose this career. It has taught me so much about resistance, how to release it and also, how to regulate the nervous system. This is why I teach selfcare and support people in creating a wellness lifestyle.
Understanding the metaphysical counter parts of our physical pain has been an amazing journey. Having a high EQ [emotional quotient] is crucial for a Visionary Leader. I am creating a community of people who not only value massage as a healing modality but invest in it as part of their monthly wellness plan.
Learning about how the body holds trauma and why people get sick but don't heal has been the highlight of my spiritual journey. And I got to monetize my gifts so that I have a career that rewards me financially for the things I prefer to be doing while alive.
The honor I feel when chosen to be a guide in a person's healing journey fills me gratitude and allows me the luxury of free time I wouldn't have if I worked a 40 hour work week.
This was the best decision I have ever made.
Thank you for reading.
